The Real Ironhero


In 1930, while studying photographs taken in January, Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto. Also in 1930, Mohandas Gandhi informed the British Viceroy of India that civil disobedience would begin. In that year, Hostess Twinkies were invented and Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2 in the first soccer World Cup Final, and Betty Boop premiered in the animated film Dizzy Dishes. Perhaps most importantly, in 1930, sister Madonnna Buder was born on July 24th. She has finished many Ironman races, and will be racing on Sunday at age 76.

(Madonna Buder is a Catholic nun from Spokane, Washington. She is well known in the Triathlon community for her achievements in age group races. She has completed over 200 triathlons including thirteen Ironman Triathlons.

At the 2005 Hawaii Ironman, at age 75, she became the oldest woman ever to complete the race, finishing one hour before the 17-hour midnight cut-off time.

Sister Buder started running when she was aged 49. During her sporting career, she has worked hard at also raising money for various charities.
